Do you really believe amost every major intelligence operation on the planet is coming clean with the full story?? That seems a bit far fetched to me. They are not exactly the open book type of agencies.

Certainly not.. Especially the French, who MI6 allegedly based their information relating to the uranium from Niger (which former Amb. Wilson claims was a fraud).

MI6 still has yet to rescind that intelligence report. But everyone in the US media is ready to claim that Wilson's view of Niger is accurate.

As for the Israelis, what were they going to do? Maybe they'd attack either Syria or Jordan in order to get to Saddam..

But few people tried to claim that Saddam was a grave danger CURRENTLY, but instead, that he was a growing threat who had to be dealt with while he lacked the means to create mischief in the region.

Remove the sanctions, or just ignore his military and regional aspirations, and we'd likely find ourselves back in the situation we were in 1990, except that this time he might have managed to develop such a WMD capability that it would be difficult to remove his regime(let alone reform it).

I am more inclined to trust my common sense than this consensus of all the best brains on the planet.

Common sense? Common sense SHOULD have told you that Saddam was taking every step possible to hide, obfuscate, and deceive the entire world as to his actual capabilities and aspirations.

How many instances would you like me to recount where we discovered Saddam was lying to UNSCOM over the past 13 years?

Do you really believe the Israelis would have allowed Saddam to exist if they thought he was such a grave danger?

Earth to ZeusPaul: you speak as if Israel were a superpower. It is a tiny country with 6 million people and a good army. Iraq has 24 million people and is about 100 times the size of Isarel. Iran, which the Israelis do consider an existential threat, has 75 million people and is even bigger.

Your common sense needs to reaquaint itself with some common facts.

" I am more inclined to trust my common sense ..."""

And I suggest you just keep on trusting that well honed " common sense ", cause the vast majority are bereft of such .
