I have read anecdotal evidence that closing up lines of credit can lower your score, depending on how much and which ones, etc. However, my goal is to trim the fat and lower the insurance credit score. Also, I view the excess department score cards as contributing to the risk of identity theft (more computers and laptops that can be compromised or stolen with my information on them). I intend to keep plenty of accounts open.
