Hi Gustave: Could you educate me about the pieds noir? France has had their problems/wars with Algeria, does it have to do with that? Talk of resettlement: The Germans had to give up most of the coast line, which is now Poland. Millions of Germans were kicked out of old Prussia, and other parts of Europe after the wars. They were called "auslander". Hungary too lost much territory. They were on the losing side. Borders do change and have changed significantly over time, but memories and old allegiances going back hundreds of years can still cause problems.
