re: It is easy to be more "fiscally responsible" when you gut the military, the single biggest expenditure in the budget.

"Gut"? Just how much is enough? US military spending vs. the rest of the world:

re: Carter left the Pentagon in dilapidated and in disarray for Reagan. Reagan/Bush rebuilt it. Clinton gutted it again. Bush is now rebuilding it again.

Makes it easy for the Left to make these disingenuous arguments. But the reality is the liberals cut spending for the most important function of government -- protecting our nation.

Before you spout off, you ought to get your facts right. Go down to the third chart on this page:

... and note that Johnson and Carter both increased military spending more then Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush Sr.

re: More leftist propaganda.

LOL. More false dogma from the neo right.

That's exactly what we need to do.

David, Clinton was reducing the debt that Reagan created.

Go look at historical charts and you'll notice the deficit (when divided by I believe the GDP) was the smallest during Carter's years.

RE: Gutting military

Bush is certainly pumping money in the wrong direction. He pumps it into military to fight a geographical war rather than pumping money into intelligence to fight a 21st century terrorist battle - why aren't their databases all synched up by now? Bush is funding military, not intelligence.

$300B per year in defense should be enough money to protect this country in a legal way, without resorting to abuse.

Glad this firm isn't located in Silicon Valley:

" including electric shocks, rape, and torture." ..."employees of San Diego-based Titan Corp. and Virginia-based CACI International, contracted for interpretation and interrogation services respectively, systematically tortured prisoners"

What is it with recent Republican leaders? Contra, Abu Ghraib, etc.

It is easy to be more "fiscally responsible" when you gut the military, the single biggest expenditure in the budget.

So if Clinton had spent $100B/year more on the military, it would put him on par with what Bush is spending NOW, and he would have exited his administration with a 1B surplus projection, ready for Jr_brain to waste on his pals...and that's without taking any credit for tax intakes increased by an overly stimulated gun powder economy (using right wing economic tools of destructive stimulus)... and think, without that extra "stimulus", contrasting the two conflicts, from 1991 to 2001, the military sure paraded an impressive array of new toys, all built under Clinton. We could actually bomb Saddam on a cloudy day from the beach in Tampa. What a maroon.

Now there is some wisdom to be gained from your statement!

Yes, it was scary, scary, scary! I was expecting the Chinese to come up through Mexico and catch some poor El Paso families and execute them.......or the eskimos to come down from the Arctic Circle thru Canada and attack Seattle.

It was awful the fear I experienced during those years. I bet you must have been peeing in your boots. How did you possibly survive the Clinton years?

I did by living in a bomb shelter! ;~))

It used to be the biggest sing expenditure but it hasn't been in a long time. It wasn't under Clinton, or Bush Sr. or Reagan. It was during Vietnam.
