Isn't it something that a woman the age of Margaret Thatcher can make it, but French President Chirac can't, or won't?

Chirac won't be there? Interesting. He's probably making a political gesture...sulking because the USA finally made it perfectly clear after almost 250yrs, that their affections lie with the U.K.

France & England are still at each others' throats after all these centuries. The cause must have something to do with basic cultural differences. Why would the French prefer to ally with their WWII conqueror, Germany, rather than with their liberators?
