In the past, Presidents who won a second term won it by a wide margin. Those who lost, lost it by a wide margin. I think this election will follow the same pattern. I think pollsters are having a heyday with all these polls. But in the end 60% of the Americans who say "the country is headed in the wrong direction" will vote accordingly.

There are reports that the conservatives are not quite thrilled with Bush trying to portray himself as the successor to Reagan. A political cartoon I saw the other day said it all: Two huge shoes of Reagan and Bush portrayed as a small rat standing in one shoe.
