i think that it means 1,598 million, i.e., 1.598 billion. works out to about 83 billion annualized, or 12.15% annualized growth. strong, but not exactly insanely strong by this Fed's standards, methinks.

compare, for example, the approximate 30% rise in foreign central bank holdings of Treasurys and agencies. these are now nearly double the Fed's gross securities held.
