Phil > Why would anyone want to hold gold when all the action is in paper dollars?

That's the question I always ask. Maybe you can answer it?

> But it is only money, the one great American success story, the manufacturing miracle, manufacturing money out of thin air. Pretty soon they will have so much of it they can use it as toilet paper.

Sure. At least it has a use. One can't do that with gold! Not easily, anyway.

Re: Why would anyone want to hold gold when all the action is in paper dollars?

Because gold will be used as a springboard to jump into the Chinese "paper renminbi" market... Just think about it: the renminbi will be revalued upward against the USD any time in 2005... more renminbi-denominated investments (*) will be open to foreign (non Chinese) investors... then there's the Beijing Olympics in 2008... and the Shanghai world expo in 2010... (**) somewhat a bullish trend for the Chinese market, isn't it?
