It's funny how the lines of debate have been blurred over the last little while. Republicans used to stand for small government. The impression I get of Bush is that he likes big government, as long as the benefits of that big government accrue to the wealthy. So as I see it the party lines are drawn thus:

Republicans support:
1. the rich
2. corporate interests
3. the defense industry
4. a one world government under their control
5. oppression of the poor

To this end the republicans are not averse to whittling away at the constitution when it is in the way of the aims stated above.
