According to the survey, the number of Jews in
the world is declining. As a result, the institute
"convened an emergency session" to address
what it called the "'demographic crisis,'"
Ha'aretz reported. In the same article, the
chairman of the Jewish Agency, Sallai Meridor,
stated that the "demographic threat" from
Palestinians inside Israel and the occupied
territories "'must certainly influence our borders
policy.'"

This has been an issue since the days of the Zionists. In the 1930s, some Zionists felt there was an Arab 'problem' and that it should be dealt with prior to Israeli independence. However, as I understand it, they were in the minority.

Recently, a study estimated that by 2015 or 2120, there will be more Palestinians than Jews in the combined Israel/occupied territories. That means the Israelis can't annex the territories except if they drive out the Palestinians........an unlikely solution to the problem.

I think what they've decided to do is give up Gaza and maintain the WB as some sort of commonwealth state where they have complete control.
