It's all part of the cult of Americana. Reagan supposedly turned America around from our post-Viet Nam doldrums and won the Cold War. What he really accomplished was a massive reordering of American society in favor of the wealthy elites who bankrolled his campaign and the destruction of the social safety net that had been in place since the Great Depression. There is a certain cult following of Ronald Reagan, espcially amongst those who benefitted from his policies. That's what you're seeing today.

For White America, Ronald Reagan conjured up its Golden Age --1950s America... that is a time when the country wasn't torn apart by all the dissensions of the 1960s (civil rights), 1970s (vietnam), 1980s (unemployment,...). Ronald Reagan somehow was like having John Wayne in the White House....
