I have a buddy working in Silicon Valley and he says that most of the people who don't have jobs only had jobs a few years ago because of the bubble. His take was that they just needed warm bodies to fill positions back in 1999 and that people making less or out of work now weren't qualified in the first place. He went on to say that these people making less are also the people who lost all their money in stock options. He was pretty harsh about the tech employee wannabes of the 90's.
