You still have the larger problem that the brilliant Rumsfeld had no plan to secure much of anything in post-war Iraq.

Granted.. I also believe that plans were quite lacking for the post-war security of Iraq.

The question is whether we're making progress in encouraging the Iraqis to provide their own security and recognize that the future of their country lies in THEIR HANDS, not in ours.

We can only do so much, regardless of how many troops we have in the country.

Again, no plan ever survives first contact with the enemy. But I gauge success on how quickly we're able to adjust to realities on the ground.
