McCain and Kerry are helping each other. If you read between the lines you'll start to realize that the very story you posted helps them both enormously. How does this help Kerry? His first choice turns him down and he now has to pick one of the second-stringers. The notion has been rife with obstacles from the start — McCain is a strong-willed conservative and Kerry a liberal from Massachusetts who would be loath to surrender presidential responsibilities that McCain might demand.
