America's retreat from Vietnam emboldened Pol Pot to conduct his wholesale slaughter of the professionals & intellectuals in Cambodia. He allowed only the simple peasants to survive. He knew we would not return to stop the slaughter. Nixon gave permission to follow the VietCong into Cambodia because the VietCong retreated there when battered by U.S. forces to re-group & return yet again to So Vietnam. It was ridiculous to tie the hands of U.S. forces when they had a chance to neutralize the enemy.
