Any Assyrians out there who would like to lay claim to Babylon and Nineveh region today ? hehe I will always immediately find suspect and look askance at any of the OT descriptions of the sinful ways and inquities of all the other peoples and tribes in that area as described there . Of course , with that newest tool at mankind's fingertips the -->written word...how else and in what light are you going to present the opposing tribes as anything other than wicked depraved sodomites, when it is you writing the good-book for yourselves ? With a little help from the aryan Greeks ofcourse. Wicked depraved souls that they were , those damn Greeks, but what mentors in skills & trade they were among other things.<G> ;-) I think that is all too easy to see that there was just a wee bit of self-interest going on here and poetic license, and a world that was made at least somewhat hospitable to even the Jew by the energies and unifying influences of other civilizations ... those that were there before and after that sustained some stable borders and trade routes intact for the flow of ideas , goods and intellectual contact and religious ideas . Jews, who are partly the fathers & mothers of Christianity , were one small part. But the squeakiest wheel always gets the grease , and what survies did so because all previous traces were erased and done so usually extremely violently , in the name of the current dominating tribe and their "history" and heros of whom they are written about rather fondly as if they were the "only ones ". No matter how fond the OT fellows were of tooting their own horns , they learned and absorbed much from all directions , though in their minds the source tribe for God's inspirations. Which is absolute nonsense.
