That's fascinating. Thanks for posting it. My children will be entering school in Scotland, and they will get religious education at their state school. I didn't find anything particularly affronting in that, as an agnostic, since I knew the English didn't take their religion very seriously, and some religious education can be a good thing for literary exploration. I think GB needs to be very careful about allowing Muslim schools, which are bound to be more zealous than the old CE religious training (which seems almost a pure formality, now.) In the US our constitution binds us up when it comes to discriminating against religions- but, imo, there are certainly some valid reasons to discriminate. Some religions are just troublesome, and why not discriminate against them, if you can? In the US we can't because of our pesky constitution- but for the cohesiveness of British society, they really ought to try to discriminate over there. I don't see any reason to subsidize something that (in some cases) wants to destroy you or at the very least, separate itself from your society, if you can get around it.
