Not totally selfless. The Americans do on occasion ask for territory, when they fight for the freedom of other people. As you can see here: abmc.gov RE:"Hmmmmm.......are we really that selfless?" And a few facts: The United States was actively supporting the Allies BEFORE Pearl Harbor. The U.S. Navy was patrolling the Atlantic and fighting the German Navy before Hitler Declared War on the U.S.A. The United States was giving equipment to the Soviets, shortly after the Germans attacked them. After conquering Europe and the Soviets (if he could), Hitler would have gone into the Middle East. Giving equipment? We were selling it. That's how we got out of the depression. And our navy was patrolling the Atlantic so that the ships laden with sold American supplies could get through to Europe. The shipping lanes also needed to be safe for passenger boats. The UK was begging us to come into the war but American isolationists were not having any of it.......until Pearl Harbor got trashed by the Japanese. Besides, there is no comparison between the losses Europe sustained during WW II and that of the US. In fact, more people died during our civil war than in WW II: "During the nearly six years that World War 2 raged, approximately 61 million individuals (miliary and civilian) lost their lives. Russia suffered more than any other nation, with nearly 25 million deaths, followed by China with 11 million and Germany with 7 million. The United States entered World War 2 after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the next four years, the U.S. lost 295,000 soldiers in death, and had a total of 405,399 American casualties (including wounded). In comparison, during the Civil War fought in the United States from 1861-1865, 624,511 individuals lost their lives." re: "Besides, Europe was on its knees. French troops resisted and killed Americans troops in North Africa during the Second World War. You have an interesting philosophy" Iraq does not have the world's second largest oil reserves - Canada does. Yes, Iraq is third when you count the Canadian oil that is mostly in shale and other composite forms at this point. Its a form that makes it very difficult and expensive to extract. That's why Iraq is generally given the title of second largest reserves because their oil is far more accessible and makes more sense economically to extract.
