Many forms of protectionism for domestic industries such as by way of tax breaks and subsidies. Plenty of such pork barrels in US, without any doubt. They are hidden. The more blatant ones are the boycott of certain products like Canadian lumber and beef. The excuse for beef is madcow disease which was found more in American cattle than Canadian's. Lumber is a retaliation for Canadian subsidies which was in place many years ago. It's like China holding off accepting iron ores from Brazil using quality standards technicality although the intent is to reduce the pricing now world commodity price is dropping. Many years ago there was a quota on imported Japanese vehicles. There are many forms of protection mechanisms for domestic industries. The end result is the higher prices consumers pay and price inflation.
