El Matador - You're right this is nonsense "the world is a much more unequal place than 40 years ago"

Biggest population in "undeveloped" countries 40 years ago -

China

India

Indonesia

Brazil

Pakistan

that should be about 60-70 % of the undevloped world population.

Indonesia has been having a tougher time with oil running out, currency hit in 1997 Asia crisis, tourism down because of Bali bombings.

All the other countries are doing much better to wildly better.

****

Let's make sure ot exclude from the list -
South Korea
Malaysia
Thailand
Peru
Ecaudor
Algeria
etc.

So what is worse ? mainly African states -
Congo / Zaire
Ugands
Angola
Nigeria
Ivory Coast
Malawi
Mozambique
Rawanda
and worst of all Zimbabwe

Most of these have wars, rebelions, mass killings, extensive criminal activity, kleptocratic governments, etc.

This isn't the world, and the world shouldn't donnate money to these places so their elite crooks can have Swiss bank accounts, send their kids abroad for education and drive Mercedes.

These countries neede supervison, and possible re-colonialization, not big checks. S

Since Europe hasn't dome well, how about India and China giving it a go ?

Doesn't China need an African empire ?
