France is doing a VERY good job of protraying themselves as our enemy.

I wish our enemies were more like France in their irrelevance in the final analysis. The French are making the standard error of assuming that political behavior in their own country (in this case, what goes on in l'Assemblée Nationale and other French political arenas) is how things work elsewhere in the world. The way they have behaved toward us is just like what I see in internal politics in the country (to the extent that I still follow it from afar somewhat.)

Another thing is this "The French" doesn't reflect all French thinking any more than all of the US is like Texas.

I wouldn't get too worked up about France is all - there are far more serious things to worry about, and they really are far closer to us in being a veritable Western culture than many of our other adversaries in the world.

Um. Under the officially ordained W "with us or against us" analysis, most of the world is doing a VERY good job of portraying themselves as our enemies. To paraphrase Joseph Nye on China, if W wants the world to be our enemy, the world will be our enemy. Given that the self-described war president is never going to change, maybe some thought should be given to alternatives.
