I'm glad you agree that it's not a democracy now.
I can't agree with you that it's anywhere near evident that it "will become democratic".
Seeing that's it's not democratic now, there's no trend to suggest your position is anything other than wishful thinking posing as a valid assertion.
It would be a good thing if Iraq did become a completely autonomous democracy. But...
The problem isn't terrorism or "freeing Iraq" or dealing with Saudi Arabia, Muslim extremists and Iran. The problem is that all those things are distracting everyone from the importance of getting away from the dependence on oil.
All the political arguments are just hot air.
There is an oil cartel and it's not narrowly defined by just OPEC. Those who benefit from the money and power that goes with oil dependence truly do not want to be made obsolete. They don't care at all about democracy, WMDs, bin laden, torture, mass graves...etc. They have no compunction against using anything that allows them to retain control of that money and power.
