just about nobody agrees with my Christian pacifism

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

James 3:17
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

"The answer is, we have to go back to what worked to defeat Communism: containment and deterrence; an essentially defensive military posture. We will defeat them, by providing a better example, and patiently waiting for their own people to overthrow the Islamist regimes. It's not flashy, it's not heroic, it's not a quick fix, it's not what the Lone Ranger would do, but that's what will work. And the sooner we adopt that posture, the sooner we will be on the road to (eventual) victory."

You are assuming sanity in our enemies that will stop them from doing a first strike. Your reply should be was stalin sane. Good point but with a terrorist movement and nukes going off in our cities who do we deter and how?

" "Staying the course", the policy of both Bush and Kerry, will just waste more lives, and more dollars, and more prestige. "

I worry about this too. I asked almost the exact question on bills thread earlier. Nixon fought vietnam for four years and 20k american dead and god knows how many vietnamese killed to get a lesser deal than he could have gotten in 1969. Thats what i worry about here as well. This might sound strange but i think a reelected bush might be quicker to withdraw than a kerry trying to prove himself. I still have some hope that alawi and the President, along with the realization that the US is leaving sooner rather than later can get the iraqis to understand who their real enemy is. That is nadines hope and again on the other thread i remain skeptical.

I wish you well Jacob. I wish that you would have watched your words earlier because regardless of how similar our views may have become as far as policy, i think the use of the word "ritual" crossed a line that shouldnt be crossed. Anyway i have crossed lines myself and i am willing to start anew. mike
