I think you ignore the OBVIOUS.

Of course no yardstick is perfect.

But having no yardsticks at all, or means of discrimination, is even worse.

You are free to develop your own yardsticks for political philosophy... if you come up with a good one, let me know.

But to dismiss perfectly useful yardsticks, in wide use, as 'useless' without offering superior replacements is an illogical position.
