Topcat, you have always been an independent thinker, and one who asks tough questions from as far back as RMIL...

I look forward to your posts and your honesty, and thank you for your initial contribution. You are the first conservative I know that voted for Clinton. I did not like his politics, but I sure enjoyed his humor and wit.

Your comments about Bush's policies rings a bell with me. I'm in philosophical agreement with his approach to the War on Terror, and with respect to Iraq. The economy is improving, but I don't know enough about economics to decide whether the improvement is due to Bush's tax cuts or simply to normal economic cycles.

I do disagree on the issue of charisma. Yes, Edwards is energetic and he is great at speaking on his feet. Hell, the dude was a trial attorney, used to speaking to juries. Of course he presents well. I don't think, however, that the ability to speak well is an essential for the office. Yes, it makes it more interesting to watch the President speak, but it's not an requirement of the office.

What I most admire about Bush is his approach to dealing with terrorism and Iraq. He knew his actions might not be popular with a large segment of the electorate. They might cost him a second term. But he takes a position and sticks with it, unlike the former resident of the WH, who wouldn't do anything without first testing the waters with a poll.

Kerry scares the shit out of me. He's ambitious, and has made no secret since his 20's of his desire to be president. He is unreliable, untrustworthy and will not take a position on any significant issues. He wants to be everyman. That is not what we need in a president.

So, I'll take Bush's lack of charisma over Kerry's lack of every other quality that makes a good president.
