Haven't seen any of those these days with the popularity of American Chopper and Jesse James on the Discovery channel. Well let's take a look at another motorcycle company that ressurected itself from the ashes: Indian Motorcycles. Now there is a motorcycle brand! They sell as much clothing as they do bikes! A marketing whirlwind! A few years ago Indian was up and running again, although even Indian could not call themselves a "motorcycle manufacturer" anymore because they at the time did not make their own engines, just like Viper motorcycles. Indian dealers were starting to appear across North America...Indian was back! Indian was putting well known S&S engines in their bikes and about a year or two ago, they began to make their own engines again. That didn't last long though because even with bringing the engine program in-house, the Indian name, classic styling and merchandise bonanza, Indian went under like the Titanic. I looked at Indian as an option when I bought my Triumph back in 2002. They had outpriced themselves out of the market. The price of the baseline Indian Scout was equivilent to the high end of Harley Davidson bikes. What common motorcyclist wants to spend that amount of money on a bike from a company only afloat a few years? Triumph on the otherhand, was lowering prices of it's bikes to attract new buyers. I wonder how much a Viper bike would be with air ride suspension, billet swingarms and someone else making their engines? $$$$$$ I guess some rich rap star would be willing to buy one of those things, but I myself wouldn't want to wear a free t-shirt with that bike on the front of it. If I was looking for a custom bike, I would be looking at the dozen or so other guys like Big Dog motorcycle.com So, if my rambling post made any sense at all, you would know that even though I am willing to buy and still hold all shares of the "ridiculed by some" CMKX, I would not touch Viper motorcycles with a ten foot pole. Then again, we all know shit can fly. The question then is: "who do they have lined up to start throwing it?"
