There is a reason why the Newsletter Writers Bull to Bear Survey is a terrific contrarian indicator which is quite simply that most newsletter writers in the survey have nothing to gain by taking a bearish stance. These supposed experts on the market recommend a number of stocks in numerous sectors but almost always on the long side of the market. When they throw up their hands and say the market is going down it's a form of capitulation. The result quite predictably is a strong market rally.
