"Why was Samsung giving such strong endorsement to a competitor's product?"

NOR really isn't a threat to Samsung's NAND market, yet anyway, but AMD's MirrorBit provides Samsung's huge cell phone product lineup with potential features that just can't be derived elsewhere. In its totality, the benefits derived by Samsung from AMD's MirrorBit far outweigh any threat to its fast growing NAND marketshare. The flash market is growing fast enough to more than offset any market encroachments by MirrorBit. Just a guess.
