I agree, but partially: yes, I think it's long past time to bring U.S. troops back to these shores. But not to "defend" this country; to be sure, if we were in need of that level of defense - a standing army on alert at home - we be best advised to review our policies at many (!) levels.

Instead, I believe that the defense of airlines should be the responsibility of the airlines. Defense of trains should fall unto the operators of the trains, and so on, and so forth.

Or so it's my belief.

Against whom? Against disaffected veterans and digruntled militias? Against would-be-McVeighs plotting the bombing of federal facilities? Against Jesus freaks lurking around abortion clinics? Against the Bible Belt's homegrown terrorists?
