Many people make mistake of demonizing every single SUV owner. Many have legitimate use of their vehicle. But I for one can't see the reason why one has to own Hummer if they are using it to go to work which is smooth paved road about 5 miles away from home.
The best strategy is to encourage incremental approach to fuel economy (while there is still research going on alternative fuel technologies) and consumer education and yes demonization of hummer owners <gg>

Ish, I had a Grand Cherokee, which I got rid of, and bought a Ford Focus wagon that gets 10 m.p.g. more than the GJ. I would bet that cutting way back on Mid-East oil would make a big difference on terrorism. We should each do our part.
