Hi Brian,
Those store clerks refused to answer us back in English though I knew fully they understood our English. I really find that strange to be honest. I vacation regularly in Eastern Canada and visit Montreal (where I was born) many times a year. While my written French is suspect I can get drunk and talk politics or anything else almost in French with the best of them... (One of my criterion for bilingualism :o) I went out of my way in Québec City numerous times to detect some rancor against English by pretending to be unilingual... Never Saw it not in Québec City nor the Bas St Laurent.. On the other hand you know it's quite possible that they simply can't speak English ... This I encountered in Lower (bas) St-Laurent area often. In fact one lady was telling me how lucky I was that we spoke multiple languages (my wife is passable in French and Greek and my daughter speaks French well).. (nothing stops them from learning). How do you know they understood ?

If you are talking Montréal I could readily believe it... that is really where the biggest problems were/are... Québec area aside from Montréal loves tourists typically... especially non Canadians...

As far as the speeding well I blow through Ontario typically @ about 140 klicks but slow to 115-120 in Quebec near Montreal... Past that though I drive just as fast as I do in Ontario. (I can't remember my last speeding ticket, I think it was when I still had a bike) When I was Quebec plated I did the opposite.... That's just life... Actually Ontario drivers are faster and lousier than Quebec drivers as a rule contrary to conventional wisdom... Insurance stats will bear me out...

I thought I was in San Francisco or Vancouver. Toronto has the largest by far... Montreal used be the biggest when I was kid but everything changed in 1976... At ant rate Toronto DWARFS San Fransisco and Vancouver for Chinese population

I've not spent much time in Edmonton but Calgary is great and quite different from the East.. Check out Drumheller ... Great museum and we dug up a bunch of dinosaur bones.. Also the Glaciers in the Rockies and Jasper and Lake Louis (Banff)... Jasper is less Touristy I found.. Next time I'm going to wood buffalo National park.. I need to spend more time on Vancouver Island also... I've travelled extensively in Canada so I know there is so much I've seen nothing :o)

Did you check out the Toronto Zoo ? It's top notch and you could have waved at me ;o)

regards
Kastel
