(In fact, it is more like $2bn in 2004 and then increasing) And that this sum will be divided between 14 countries. When you look at the total population of these 14 countries, the per capita aid per year will probably be a fraction of what the 6 million population Israel is getting every year. Just look it up. Israel gets about USD 3bn every year in aid, not to mention the USD 2-3 bn indirect aid in the form of loans (that are somehow never repaid and forgiven over time). Bush's 2003 budget for foreign aid was USD 11 billion. The math is simple enough. cfrterrorism.org But now the USA has taken over Iraq, this reduces their role, and with the auto industry in a better position to focus on alternative energies, it's feasible 3/4 of the capital could be routed to fund alternative energy studies at universities and corporations None of that changes the influence of the religious factors in US foreign policies - the powerful Jewish and pro-Israel Christian lobbies in the US have a serious influence on foreign policy. I find it surprising that so many Christians believe that Jews have to build a certain temple in Jerusalem (i.e. stay there) so that Christ can return. But they do. And that influences their behaviour such that they make their country to subsidize another on the other side of the planet in massive amounts that could do serious good in their own country. It's a mystery to me :-) Seriously, until and unless Americans can begin to accept that Israel is just another country and that Israelis are just another group of people who have to struggle to prosper, not to mention somehow get along with their neighbours or perish, I don't expect much of a change in the massive aid US hands out to Israel every year not the blatantly preferential treatment it gets in foreign policy. I am not judging any of this. What you do with your taxpayers' money is your business. And so is the hostility you are sowing by financing a bloody operation. All I am doing is presenting the facts and numbers so as to end this denial of "Israel is not getting preferential treatment" etc
