Back in the 50's in Connecticut this story made the rounds among hunters.
A hunter was driving on a state road and saw a pheasant on the opposite side of the road. He swerved over and hit the bird, picked it up and put it in the trunk of his car. He didn't realize that a state policeman saw the incident. He was stopped and charged with the following:
1) Hunting without a license
2) Hunting too close to a state road
3) Hunting out of season
4) Reckless driving.

He had to pay a fine and his shotgun(which was in the car) was confiscated.
