Peter: how and when would we know that this risk is no longer going to be a significant factor going forward?

When 90nm product is available in retail, in volume.

Expected timing is within the next 3-4 months for initial availability. AMD indicated in their last CC that everything was going great, but then I've never heard them (or Intel) claim otherwise.

The key question, besides getting yields up (which is apparently what is going "great"), is what the power consumption will look like.

It's important to note that AMD switched to a design-envelope reporting scheme. Thus, the power consumption is not quoted for a specific processor, but rather for a range of processors. E.g. *all* current desktop Athlon64 processors (incl. 3700+ and FX) are rated at 89W.
