Mary, given the fact your case may now be the most important court ruling ever to affect SLAPPs, I'd say that, assuming you prevail of course, that if you truly intended to make a contribution to strengthening our First Amendment right of free speech, you will have succeeded. If I were you (meaning I only can say what I think I'd do, not what I think *you* should do), I'd be choir boy from now on. Yes, I know you consider Varian execs and their lawyers the lowest form of life on earth and would rather be dead than see them get away with what they did to you-- but I truly think they've failed miserably and the higher road you take the more disgrace you'll bring upon them. Remember, the vast majority of people will only have heard about you from this Supreme Court appeal, not from your Internet postings or book. If I were Varian, I'd be petrified of the fallout from the public horror of how they used millions of dollars to literally destroy your life. I would hope they realize the only way to save face would be, as onerous as it sounds, sufficiently monetarily compensate you for their actions over the years. In return, you agree that you still retain your right to publicly criticize them until you are dead, but that since you will have accomplished your ultimate goal, you assure them you have no desire to do so any more.

- Jeff

Mary, Have any Amicus Curiae briefs been filed supporting the lower court's judgement?
