Ok, now we are picking hairs. The question was holding onto one office while running for another. People do that all the time in all the elections irrespective of party affiliations. Bush did that and others like Kerry will do so too. Bob dole did so. He probably did not have the time and energy to rerun for his Senate seat while at the same time running for President. So he decided to run for one.

I think this is a stupid discussion to pursue any further.
