Apple & Adobe ... Reader ...

Exactly my reaction! At first. I set pdf's to open with Reader by performing a GET INFO on the pdf and altering the associated application and making it apply to all pdf files. Later on, for reasons I can't remember, I set the association back to Preview. All I remember is that it worked better that way.

Don't have any experience with Yahoo briefcase. Wassat?

Edit: One thing you might want to keep in mind is that OS X is pdf crazy. You can print any document to pdf. I think previews are in pdf, and I believe the screen is laid out in pdf. Screen captures are pdf too.

>>So I got my dual G5 with Panther and lo and behold, no Adobe Reader! Had to go download it. And still Apple's Preview insists on being the default when you double clck on a .pdf file. Is this my ignorance of how to tailor OSX to my desires, just plain stupidity on Apple's part, or corporate backbiting?<<

Dan -

I'm not sure why Adobe Reader didn't offer you the chance to associate all PDF files with it when you installed it, but you can do that on your own.

Don't know why you'd want to, though. I must say that Preview is a MUCH faster application than Adobe Reader. It's amazing. I can open two hundred page PDF files in a couple of seconds on my paltry 500MHz PowerBook G4. Adobe Reader takes a lot longer just to load itself.

PS: Congrats on the new G5. I'm thinking about getting one very soon.

What blows my mind is when you drop a .pdf onto iChat you can resize it at will and so can the recipient.
