DID JOE LIEBERMAN RESIGN FROM THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY?

Posted By: Rosalinda

On June 16, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Senator ``Neo-Con Joe'' Lieberman delivered a speech
which was -- or at least should be -- his resignation from the Democratic Party.

Lieberman announced that the Korean War-era warmongering
Committee on the Present Danger, was being ``reborn for a third
time,'' to a gathering of the top 80-100 Iraq warmongers and
neo-con crazies in Washington, gathered under the auspices of the
Foundation for the Defense of Democracies,
the group that lobbied and lied for the Iraq war.

But, of all the speakers, by far the most rabid was Lieberman --
who warned that a ``new empire of evil'' was in the making:
a new Muslim Caliphate, run by Osama Bin Laden, and the ``Islamists,''
which would extend from ``Istanbul to Islamabad,
from Khartoum to Kabul, from Kuala Lampur to Bangkok, and
beyond.''

The purpose of this coming ``evil empire,'' said Lieberman, was --
reading from the words of Osama Bin Laden in 1998 --
to give a home to ``every Muslim who believes in God''
and who ``[must] obey God's command to kill the Americans
and plunder their possessions wherever he finds them
and whenever he can.''

This Islamism is ``Nazi totalitarianism,'' and the
challenge of the new century, the way Nazism was in the last,
said Lieberman. Unless the U.S. ``wins'' in Iraq, then then 100
million Arabs will never know freedom and democracy -- because,
he implied, the leaders of the Muslim world {lack} the drive and
the commitment to stop the Islamists.

If the President -- the leader of this war against terrorism
-- ``happens to be a Republican'' [which, of course, he is],
Lieberman said, that President has {his} full support, because
``ultimately, loyalty to country'' is much more important ``than
loyalty to party.'' To sweeten that declaration of war against
the Democratic Party, Lieberman claims that he is representating
``the true ideals'' of the Democratic Party.

Delivering a poor imitation of Winston Churchill's ``Iron
Curtain'' speech, of 1946, ``Neo-Con Joe'' told the audience that
the role of the new CPD and the FDD is critical in the days
ahead, because ``you cannot allow'' a ``theological wall'' to go
down in the Arab world. The assembled audience stood between life
and death in the war against terrorism because, ``today in
America support for the [Iraq] war is in jeopardy.''

He attacked those ``who want to use'' ``the prison abuse
scandal,'' to ``pull our troops out.'' America might lose the
will to win, he stressed, repeating several times, ``the
terrorists will never defeat us militarily. We cannot allow them
to defeat us politically.''

Giving 100% support to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney on the
lies connecting Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, Lieberman said,
``The connection between the Iraqi insurgency ... and Al Qaeda's
worldwide campaign of anti-democratic terror is now clear. Bin
Laden's henchmen are fighting side-by-side with Saddam loyalists
on the streets of Baghdad, Fallujah, Najaf and across Iraq --
killing Americans and Iraqis....'' Bin Laden is ``the
quintessential anti-American terrorist.''

Lieberman pleaded for reprinting of Osama Bin Laden's
writings and speeches, so that ``every school child'' can be made
to read them in order to know the danger of terrorism.
When he praised ``Scoop Jackson,'' Lieberman received a
standing ovation, led by the writers from the New York Post and
the Weekly Standard, who are on their own crusade to destroy
every critic -- especially Democrats -- of the Iraq war, the
prison tortures, or the use of fraudulent ``intelligence''.

Lieberman was the only elected official on the list of some
20 speakers. And the only neo-cons absent from the gathering
were Richard Perle, who is under major pressure because of his
multiple lies, manipulations, and miscalculations in the Iraq
war, and the top sitting officials of the Bush-Cheney gang: Doug
Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, and Lewis ``Scooter'' Libby.

Twice before since World War II, the anti-American System
faction of the U.S. establishment used the ``Committee on the
Present Danger'' moniker to push preemptive war, including
strikes with nuclear weapons. CPD-I was organized in 1950, by
``eminent'' persons of the Wall St. establishment, to push
President Harry Truman against China. Then, CPD-II was born in
1976, when Sen. Henry ``Scoop'' Jackson failed to get the
nomination of the Democratic Party for President. Jackson's staff
was then the ``central command'' for the Straussians and
neo-cons, including Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, and Frank
Gaffney. They joined other ``eminent'' right-wing Democrats to
reestablish the Soviet Union as the ``enemy image,'' and battle
the policies of ``detente'' and ``arms control.'' They turned to
leading Republicans such as then-Defense Secretary James Rodney
Schlesinger to become ``bipartisan'', and at the urging of Eugene
V. Rostow, a former Lyndon Johnson official, they decided to
re-create the CPD, in honor of the effective scare campaign run
for three months in 1951 by CPD-I, those who wanted Truman to
drop more nuclear bombs, as he had in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Isn't it time to purge the Democratic Party
of loser Lieberman and his nuclear nightmare?
