Seriously, though, I would imagine that college professors are brighter than the average person, more informed, better read...and gee...on balance they happen to be more liberal thinkers. What a surprise.

Perhaps most college professors are brighter than the average person...

However, there is a world full of folks, who with age, increase their mental capacities, become street smart, graduate from the school of hard knocks and eventually encounter a thing called reality.

And those professors continue to think liberally and think liberally and...

No surprise there.

If they were so bright the would be out in the field doing it. Remember, those who can do, those who can't teach and those who can't teach, teach in the public schools
