The Senate then and now was split very evenly, but in fact Al Gore provided the Dems with the majority at that time to resolve tie-breakers. This is what the Wash Post said, "If Clinton would not resign, Lott immediately realized, chances were just about zero that he would be forced from office. House Republicans could bull forward because they had all the votes they needed. In the Senate, where a two-thirds majority was required to convict, Democrats now controlled the outcome."

Clinton was a great president. His sex life had nothing to do with his job performance. The Ken Starr people never should have been in his dirtry laundry to begin with. Can you imagine the 9-11 commission going into Bush's underwear drawer, finding a semen stain and putting him on the stand to testify. Just about as outrageous. Ken Starr is a disgrace.
