Mq, the failure to integrate themselves into Western European societies is precisely what's fueling a lot of the terror. Their failure leads to extreme alienation, leading to religious fanaticism, leading to Kaabooom!

A proven and established fact.

Hi Maurice Winn; Re: "Going back to the original issue, we'll see how well the Moslems of France become clonesville French, like the purported happy homogeneity of the USA [which begs the question as to why there are rabidly opposed Republicans and Democrats]."

You're setting up a strawman argument here. I never said that Moslems would be "clones" of other French, nor did I claim that the US is homogenous. What I said was that the Moslems would be "absorbed". That's a process where both the French and Moslems change. The way I put it was "I would guess that the children will choose their own way, and that it would be more French than Moslem, but it will definitely not be a completely French way."

Re: "I don't want to be like everyone else. Clonesville isn't for me."

That's what you say now, but you're all growed up (ossified) now. Normal human behavior for juveniles is to attempt to blend in. Why? Simple. Those who refuse to follow this process find themselves unrepresented in the gene pool. By the way, I've already mentioned in this exchange that cultural modification primarily acts through the children. Adults may eventually learn a new language, but in our mass media society, almost all children do.

And it is the language that carries the culture. I would think that the French would be pretty good at both noticing that fact, and acting on it. So I suspect that French culture will do just fine.

Re: "... they'll need more serious policing than the USSR's to ensure compliance with cultural norms when conflicting religions really come to blows."

When the population changes, the "cultural norms" change too.
