Perhaps it is human nature that makes us defensive but there were many Democrats who criticized Kerry during the primaries and there are those who don't like him now but may vote for him anyway. Also, there are Republicans who complain about Bush and his war with Iraq so I don't think it is always fair to say that people don't complain about the parties or the candidates. Often, people both praise and complain about their party and their favorite politician.
