I heartily second the use of a 2nd hard drive

I have a second drive that I have image backed up my files and operating system too.

Is there a simple way of switching the second drive off so it stays fresh and reliable? It would need to be switched back on to do image backups about once a month.

I use XP, and have had to use my back up files several times in the last year. I use Norton Ghost 2003 and have found it works OK.
