Stocks seen staying high, Iraq in focus--Barron's

<< 20 June 2004, 4:50pm ET

NEW YORK, June 20 (Reuters) - A smooth handover of power in Iraq could add to optimism over U.S. stocks despite concern about the effects of higher oil prices and rising interest rates on corporate profits, Barron's newspaper reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said a panel of 11 investors and portfolio managers it interviewed expected stocks to roar ahead through second half of 2004 even with a rising risk premium.

Following are some of the stock picks by the panelists that participated in Barron's Midyear Roundtable discussion.

Scott Black, founder and president Delphi Management Inc., said his picks are MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. (NYSE:WFR), a supplier of wafers to semiconductor device makers; and tax preparer H&R Block Inc. (NYSE:HRB).>>
