Overall, in CA, pay higher gas prices, house prices, state income taxes, state road tax, state car insurance. If you live in Sonoma County the daily toll on the Golden Gate Bridge is $5. About the only 'cheap' item is high speed internet. The additional income one earns in most cases in CA does not make up for the high costs. On the other hand, there are advantages to living in Paradise. (I lived in Bodega Bay and Sebastopol for ten years, and still wonder why I wanderlusted back east)
