Hal,

Usually you remove icons from the system tray from within the program that the icon designates. Usually under the options menu there is a toggle for load into system tray. Not always though.

The program might also be starting automatically on startup, which you may or may not want, a separate issue from the system tray icon. The icon appearing in the system tray does indicate that the program is running.

You can remove an icon from the system tray by clicking start; run; type in msconfig and choose startup. On the startup menu uncheck the boxes that you want to eliminate from startup and the system tray.

What program put the icon there? Right click it for options.
