My gut tells me that a some who were secular in 1990 were not yet out of the closet.

I used to believe that those who are known as the "Heavenly Host" were becoming a rapidly dwindling minority. But the lack of values for a lot of people has resulted in great gains for the evangelicals. Most people who reject religion as they hit maturity do not go through and analyze their values from a secular standpoint. So they are open to conversion. The pull of the "group" as they get married and raise kids makes these "feel good" megachurches very attractive.

Will Bush go too far and lose secular votes? Good question.
