The book of Job talks about why bad things happen to good people.

Job moans and groans about his misfortune, producing some expressive lines.

Job 12:4
I have become a laughingstock to my friends...

Job 10:18
Why then did you bring me out of the womb?
I wish I had died before any eye saw me.

The point seems to be that it is not our place to understand everything.

Job 11:7 Can you fathom the mysteries of God?
Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
8 They are higher than the heavens - what can you do?
They are deeper than the depths of the grave - what can you know?

Job 12:13
To God belong wisdom and power;
counsel and understanding are his.

Job 36:26
How great is God - beyond our understanding!

Job finally gets to bring his case to the supreme court of supreme courts.

Job 40
1 The LORD said to Job:
2 "Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?
Let him who accuses God answer him!"

6Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm:
7 "Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.

Chapters 40 and 41 are God saying, (imo) "Were you here when I made this place? WTF do you know?

Job 41:11 Who has a claim against me that I must pay?
Everything under heaven belongs to me.

(Sorry Solon, you probably won't collect on that quid.)

Job then apologizes.
Job 42
1 Then Job replied to the LORD :

3 ... surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me to know.

And they all live happily ever after.

Job 42
10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.
