Bush to Name Florida's Porter Goss as CIA Chief, Official Says
quote.bloomberg.com

June 24 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush will nominate U.S. Representative Porter Goss, a former intelligence officer, as the new head of the Central Intelligence Agency, a Bush administration official said.

Goss, 65, will be named by Bush tomorrow to take over the intelligence agency from George Tenet, who announced he was resigning on June 3, the official, who spoke on the condition he not be identified, said.

The Florida Republican was a clandestine CIA officer for a decade before he entering politics in 1974 by running for mayor of Sanibel Florida.

Goss is the chairman of the House Select Committee on Intelligence and had been leading an investigation into intelligence failures leading up to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S.

Former officials such as ex-CIA director Stansfield Turner said after Tenet resigned that Goss would be a possible replacement.
