It's commonly known the DEms lost control of congress in 1994 by daring to insist the budget be balanced even if that meant slightly higher taxes. The GOP used that as a club because apparently they believe only in massive deficit financing, a credit card mentality and huge corporate welfare. Clinton gave us 6 years of boom-boom economy after that, much better than Reagan's because it actually paid for itself. Reagan like GW left us huge deficits for his binge of growth.
